Wingspan is a gorgeous game about birds.
Players make decisions about cultivating their tableaux which is organized by woodland, grassland and wetland biomes. As the game progresses players collect cards that expand the victory conditions at the end game. Though collecting victory conditions through game play is an innovative mechanic that keeps players from being shut out in the final game it also creates a schizophrenic and unfocused experience. The end game becomes more about points and less about an immersive experience.
The rule book is well written and clear. It’s a great reflection of the thoughtfulness found in every aspect of the game.
